In 1908 Nell Brinkley's drawings of Evelyn Nesbitt, cultural icon and early sex symbol became sensational.These and subsequent images of fashionable, breezy, curly-haired working girls were dubbed “Brinkley Girls,” and supplanted Gibson's then-current model.
