Fighting game developers are in a constant downward race to see who can write the most fucking awful parents of all time.
There have been a lot of new cool and interesting original characters added to several fighting game franchises over the years, but deep down I feel like Killer Instinct consistently had some of the best. Not even from a pure visual perspective, but a gameplay one as well.
Every King of Fighters Saga has deeper meaning:
The Rugal Saga: The power of friendship can conquer evil
The Orochi Saga: Mankind can put aside their differences in times of crisis
The NESTS Saga: We are the ones in control of our own destiny
The Ash Saga: Don’t trust femboys
This official art of Sol Badguy is sending me because it just has the same aura as that flaming Steph Curry image.
Something underrated in fighting games is when character lore is integrated into their moveset. Like how Ryu didn't have his donkey kick in SF4 because he didn't learn it yet, but Gouken's focus attack is precursor to it. Or how Iori became claw focused after Ash took his flames.
Shoutouts to eternally sleepy dudes because I deeply relate to them on a personal level.
