It's kinda great how the jokes in "Thirty something Office Lady Haman-sama" circle all the way back to the SD Gundam OVAs.

I saw a tweet the other day that pointed out this shot of the Gundam launching in movie III as being a moment where “real robot” as a concept crystallized. The Gundam flying head first gave it the profile of a sleek space fighter. It’s an image referenced many times.

The SR-71 is also what the Macross 7 baddies are based on.
