Bust of the Romantic era painter Robert Ekman (1808-1873) in front of @turkuartmuseum .
His mother Sara Gadolin was cousin of the famous chemist Johan Gadolin (1760-1852), the only Finn after whom a chemical element has been named (Gadolinium(Gd)).
The first photo ever taken in Finland. It was taken in Turku on this day 1842 by medical doctor Henrik Cajander (1804-48). He was promoted as Master of Philosophy on the same day as National Poet J.L.Runeberg July-10 1827.
The building in the picture was demolished in the 1960's.
