#onthisday in 1731, Daniel Defoe died. Defoe owned property in Colchester & likely lived here for a period, partly setting his novel Moll Flanders in the town.
He said "Colchester is an ancient corporation; the town is large, very populous; the streets fair and beautiful..."
Currently on @CATRomanCircus until April 28th is a special exhibition by artist Peter Froste showcasing his work, and collaborations with the archaeological trust, recreating a Colchester of centuries past. Fascinating stuff!

#OnThisDay in the year 41, Claudius became Roman Emperor. He went on to invade Britain, then after his death a Temple was built in his honour on the site where Colchester Castle now stands. The town remains scattered with reminders of his legacy. https://t.co/mvLk5qTwUu
If, like us, you enjoyed #Britannia on @skyatlantic last night, then we can recommend a trip to Colchester and the Castle Museum. Roman Invasions, Warrior Queens, Druids, and plenty of bloody battles. The real stories of AD55 are just as gripping as the fiction.

Too much live music in Colchester (and Wivenhoe) this Bank Holiday weekend to fit in one tweet! 1/2
