I seem to keep coming across cartoons and comics related to the current situation the world is in.

In hindsight, the fact that the current arc in the IDW Sonic comic series involves an evil virus that spreads through touch and as a result anyone who isn't infected is being kept locked away from the outside world is actually kind of fitting nowadays (this arch started in 2018).

Well, this is extremely relevant nowadays.

It's probably due to how he's drawn in that image. Most Sonic artwork has his brow much closer to his nose, not to mention they make sure not to have the pupils at the side of his head in those profile shots, so it looks more normal.
