Animation art from Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (1991).
I’ve featured Mel Shaw’s work before: he did many great concept paintings for The Black Cauldron, The Fox and the Hound, The Great Mouse Detective, among others.
Illustrations by Dutch designer, Kees Kelfkens (1919-1986), including his covers for the 1956 Dutch edition of THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS, and THE HOBBIT, 1960.
LES ENFANTS DE LA PLUIE (THE RAIN CHILDREN), 2003. An animated French/South Korean fantasy by Philippe Caza (whose work I’ve featured here before) and Philippe Leclerc.
British illustrators/sisters, Janet Grahame Johnstone (1928–1979) and Anne Grahame Johnstone (1928–1998).
Concept sketches by Clive Barker for his proposed 1990s remake of THE MUMMY (images 1 and 2), and his most famous character, Pinhead, from HELLRAISER.
Concept art for JURASSIC PARK (1993) by Craig Mullins (image 1) and John Bell.
Art from fanciful 1970s Belgian comic, Roze Bottel (French: Olivier Rameau). (“Roze Bottel” is Dutch for “rose hip”.)
Loved it as a kid. It had sci-fi & fantasy elements, dewy hippie love, a hint of soft-porn, and a general “anything goes” mentality that made the stories fun.
