The Threatened Swan by Jan Asselijn, 1650

I’m a big fan of animal art and the rendering of this swan is amazing.

Madonna surrounded by Seraphim and Cherubim by Jean Fouquet, 1450

When I saw this last year, I was completely thrown aback. This is part of a diptych and feels modern yet is from the 15th century. The Madonna and Child have never been depicted in such a surrealist fashion.
