Concept Art! Clearly the builders of the Squirrel Shrine were VERY different from those who made other, grimmer, shrines.

Concept Art! Shrines are cool setpieces because they create the idea of someone else having lived in this place and can convey values, technology levels, and aesthetics. This here is a shrine in a swamp. We, of course, call it "swamp shrine."

Concept Art! Shrines are fun, because they can be eye-catching set pieces as well as potential interactive elements. (Yes, we said "eye-catching" and this is a shrine with an eye in it. Just how we roll.)

Concept Art! A quick sketch for an attacked village. Fun fact: you may have a general idea but when you go to draw the thing you realize that you had no idea at all. Sketching forces you to check whether you have concrete ideas or just feelings.

Concept art! Given that our heroes would be walking around on a grid for battles, what did the rest of the environment look like? These were early concepts that established the idea of flat "set pieces" populating 3D space around the grid floor.
