Ned Leeds is another character I, as someone who only tangentially knew things about the comics, thought of as Peter's friend. Ditko had him *hating* Peter, quarreling over who would get to be with Betty. Under Romita...

So, real quick, I'll post a few panels that get across how mean-spirited *every* dialog is in this comic at this point. Everyone snipes at one another every time they interact. And even a *little* talking it over would easily defuse it all.

Spider-Teeth.

Scorpion looked goofy.

Famously, Peter sewed his own spider-suit, but I had no idea he *hated* doing it. This was definitely a "men don't sew" thing, I think.

Mary Jane Watson is name dropped way sooner than I thought she would be. She even appears in-person at one point while Ditko is still on it. So Ditko drew MJ exactly once. And he didn't draw her face.
