I'd really like to talk about this show because there's a lot to enjoy about it. How it discusses class, autonomy, questioning the ethics of charity, and how it added so much meat to a relatively simple book. But also how it hurt a lot. 30 years later, Judy deserved better.

So why, are you wondering, am I asking why? Why this? It's easy enough to just come out and say that aging down the protag from 18 to 12 and still having her marry her pushing-thirty benefactor is bone-eatingly terrible. The hard part is HOW we get to that point. Each step hurts.

Most anime fans can list their most influential animes. The ones that stand with them and give them joy or even helped them in tough times. But sometimes you watch anime that make you ask questions like: Why? Why this? For me it's Watashi no Ashinaga Ojisan: My Daddy Long Legs.
