We're loving these long summer days☀️

This is 'The Dormitory and Transept of Fountains Abbey – Evening' by J. M. W. Turner.

Turner was less concerned about recording architecture accurately than with capturing the evening light, which leaves a reflected glow in the water🌊

Another beautiful day in We hope you're enjoying picnic season ☀️

A great spot in the mid 19th Century is captured in this lithograph ‘From the Manor Shore, York’, by J.S. Prout.

Just next to the River Ouse & in the background Lendal Ferry and York Guildhall can be seen!

This work shows a scene on the road to Calvary when Veronica reached forward to wipe Christ's face with her veil when he stumbled carrying the cross. The veil was miraculously imprinted with an image of Christ's face.

Today's Here we have ‘Jester and Dragon’ by L. R. Brightwell.

The Jester is fooling around, making the dragon cheekily smile. Legend has it that Jesters are drawn to Dragons because of their playful moves like flying & breathing fire!🐉🤹🏻‍♂️

Today's theme is prisons &
incarceration.

This is 'Roman Charity: Cimon and Pero' by Dirck van Baburen,1623. The subject of Cimon, condemned to starve in prison, being breast-fed by his daughter Pero was a favourite with artist and patrons in the 17th century.
