Around 300,000 years ago, brain endocasts of Homo naledi (pink) were 50-67% the size of Indonesian Homo erectus (yellow), but anatomically they may not have been not too different

Brain endocasts of immature Neandertals Engis 2 (left) and Krapina 1 (right). Although brain size of each was within the adult range of variation, similar to humans kids today, they probably still would have had lots of development left

Stw 183 is the left side of a young australopith face from Sterkfontein, South Africa. Although it has been likened to the type fossil of Paranthropus robustus (TM1517, green), virtually overlapping the fossils shows it lacks a classic "robust" face

Brain endocasts of a human (green) compared with heavily reconstructed Homo naledi (gold) and Homo erectus (red), scaled to same size (left side and top views)

Stw 53 is a partial cranium from Sterkfontein, South Africa. Is it early Homo? Australopithecus? Time is ripe for a new reconstruction.

Very detailed brain endocast of a bonobo (Pan paniscus) showing elaborate middle meningeal vessels, cortical sulci/gyri, and venous sinuses (top, back, left, right views)

KNM-ER 3732 is a partial cranium from Kenya, attributed to early Homo. Viewed here from the front, top, and left-front, brain🧠 endocast in blue
