ON THIS DAY in 1991 (21 Sep) an Independence Referendum was held in the Republic of Armenia. The Referendum was held to determine if voters were in favor of Independence from the Soviet Union. A total of 99.5% of voters voted in favor, with a voter turnout of 95%.
