okay i think the color palette was definitely a big factor ! here’s one side with aikatsu colors and one with mermaid melody colors (i color picked from parts that i thought might translate to merm’s color theme from the refs)

shadows are also a bit bigger in the hair

i was doing a style study and trying to make an anime (mostly aikatsu) style sprite of merm but it doesn’t feel quite right?? i can’t figure out what’s the problem either
