This is from my video lecture I just recorded for my upcoming "How To Draw Wolves, Coyotes, and Foxes" Here I talked about the underlying structure of the head. If you know what's happening inside, then the outside will make more sense.
When I work on a composition like this, I go very rough at first. My goal is to find balance, clarity of silhouette, and movement. I then focus on anatomy to push drama and accuracy. Adding tone to the cats shows me how the silhouette feels.
