Take a look at composition basics from the master himself. There are illustrators & storytellers. Kirby was a storyteller. The image is busy, lots of things happening but there is room for characters to stand out and the eye keeps moving from one sequence to the other

In order to compete with manga, major comic book companies try to use more cartoonish artwork. The problem was never the art to begin with. American comics art is superior. Manga is beating mainstream comics due to superior storytelling and world-building consistency.
