In 2019 the Magic carpet studio won the International Film Festival's ‘Best African animation Hourglass’ award for a short film he directed.
He co-founded Magic Carpet Studios based in Lagos and has served as art director since 2016. Magic Carpet has trained over 100 animators in five years, and Chekwube is right at the centre of it. The studio creates animations about and inspired by African stories and literature.
His grant is funding a colouring book that wants to introduce children to the continent’s cultural diversity.
