Finished image and the sketch I posted earlier. I used a bunch of photos as well in this one. It's great fun using photos because it often leads you into new ideas and shapes that you hadn't thought of before. I just make sure the photo fits well and does not stand out.
Here is a 3D mock-up I made in Maya for a concept I just started. As you can see it's very basic but it's a good start. I will now take it into Photoshop and start painting on top of it.
I always use reference, but I dont marry myself to it. Its there if I need it but if something looks better in a way that perhaps not 100% "correct" I do that instead. I think that's where your "style" comes in. Play around and be bold, try weird stuff, it's only a painting.
This is a painting I made 8 years ago, and thought it good enough to post online at the time. Practice works.
I don't want my own idea of the story of my images to get in the way of the viewers made up story. So I always try to keep that vague, not explaining to much with a description text or title. This image I made a year back or so I just call "Fortune Seekers"
Kepler-186f fan art. What would nature look like on a planet orbiting a red dwarf star? https://t.co/ldXJESCVtV #Kepler #NASA
I just recently started playing some #Destiny2 and I'm really enjoying it. Here's an older sketch I did from Destiny.
