Fényes, Adolf (1867–1945), Jewish painter born in Kecskemét. Adolf Fényes was one of his country’s most distinguished Jewish painters. Interned in a forced labor camp in the 1930s, Fényes died of starvation at the close of World War II.

Simchat Torah flag was printed in Warsaw in 1902, where there were over 300,000 Jews at the start of the 20th century. Jewish life was vibrant and although many Jews were unemployed, by 1900, Warsaw had become the centre of Hebrew publishing in Poland..
