#Hedgehog Day – February 2 !! This drawing is an ndividual of Atelerix albiventris. There are 17 different species. The UK has only one native species, the European Hedgehog. These amazing #animals have between 5000 and 7000 quills for defense.

#Octopus have three hearts and blue blood; they squirt ink to deter predators; and being boneless, they can squeeze into (or out of) tight spaces. They are quite intelligent and have been observed using tools. #wildlife #art #procreate #animals #nature

Tomorrow is #Squirrel Appreciation Day !! This is a #Prevost's squirrel (Callosciurus prevostii) and it is an #omnivore. They have a varied diet including fruit, flowers, seeds, insects, larvae, eggs, reptile and even small #birds.

#Penguin Awareness Day – January 20.
This is a little blue #penguin (Eudyptula minor), the #smallest kind of penguin in the world. This species is characterized by its #blue to gray plumage.

Here are some drawings of birds I have done this year: The #turtle #dove is Britain’s only migratory pigeon or dove. #Nightjars also migrate to the UK from Africa, usually around April-May. They spend the summer months here before migrating back south during September.

Eurasian spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia): long and flat bill, wider at the end. Nostrils near the base to allow to breathe while the bill is underwater.
Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex): can live up to 35 years and grow up to 1.5 meters tall. Unfortunately, this species is endangered.

This species breeds on islands in the Mediterranean. In Italy there are quite numerous colonies in #Sardinia, in particular on the island of #SanPietro. The male is smaller than the female and has a yellow bill while females have a light blue one.

Eleonora's #falcon (Falco eleonorae) is a rare European bird of prey. This falcon takes its name from Eleonora d’Arborea who, with the issuance in the fourteenth century of the "Carta de Logu", was the first to #ban #hunting all birds of prey.
