of course, the name and inspiration are based on Wiglett + Dugtrio + trident, the weapon used by god of the sea Poseidon

(the name is shorter in Japanese because JP Pokemon names have a six character limit; also it's pronounced "Dagutoraide")

for design details: Gastrodon have these "cow horns" on their heads, which may be a pun on 海牛 umiushi (JP for sea slug, from 海 umi (sea) and 牛 ushi (cow; cattle))

Gastrodon is even featured w/ other bovine mons in 2021 artworks for Year of the Ox
