How to remember your Chinese provinces

- "Bei" is north and "Nan" is south. Hebei = north of "He" (river); Henan = south of river. Hubei = north of lake, hunan = south.
- "Xi" is west and "dong" is east. So Shandong = east of mountain; Shanxi is west. Or Guangdong and Guanxi.
