I felt like this piece in particular felt the most gratifying to complete. I had more than a few problems to solve to fully realize what I was going for.
Overall, I felt like I captured the bombastic action and ominous sci-fi feeling that the gameplay footage impressed on me!
A fun thing to try is to set challenges when you're doing any sort of project. For this piece, I wanted to capture the sort of heightened reality that old action movies had.
Think about how really dark scenes we're shot bathed with blue light! It's not realistic but it's fun!
Now we reach the final version of the Hedon art! I can proudly say that I learned so much working on this piece. I used many unfamiliar techniques and brushes and I've never done this sort of motif! That's what makes the journey exciting and spectacular!
I found it helpful to put as many eyes as I could on the piece. Going forward, the piece became a collaboration, my girlfriend gave her wonderful insight which led to some beautiful details, like the castle and flames merging to form a sort of roaring beast! Did you see it?
Once that first few hurdles are done, then you can just start enjoying the process and letting the painting come alive on its own! Put on your favorite soundtrack and keep adding on the details and trying out wild ideas!
In my previous works, I normally put a lot of time to set up a very clean linework or establish the values with grayscale only. I felt very inspired for this piece so I decided to dive straight in with the colors. It was a perilous adventure to say the least!
