Tomorrow night I’m reading and presenting some of my film poems at Christie’s in London. Check out the full lineup! https://t.co/ZHKNvcdcjj
The final part of the book, The Sea as a Metaphor for Death, is my take on the vanitas tradition.
The paintings of Francis Bacon exerted an influence too: isolated meaty figures, vulnerable and monstrous, screaming silently in the stasis of the image.
Another big influence was @nineinchnails: Reznor’s distorted glitchy vocals became my pulverised text. And remixes! Remixes of remixes of remixes.
Blake’s Songs of Innocence & of Experience was a big influence on the book’s main cycle, structurally, thematically and in its combination of words and images.
Another remix I didn’t include. I like it but there’s not much to it. It could perhaps become the starting point for something else.
