@Xyphles well blend modes are kinda different cuz they can totally change how your thing looks. here's what it looks like if i just change the layer with the orange lighting to different blend modes (add, hard light, overlay, and screen), none of them really hit as hard imo

sometimes you'll see artists be like "don't just rely on blend modes for lighting" and while I like weird layering as much as the next person, using one color on a normal blend mode for the lighting on everything can make your things really slap
