In 1928, #Tolkien drew an owl called Owlamoo to dispel his son Michael's night fear about a sinister owl-like creature.

It was 3 years after he created Roverandom, a story of a dog cursed into being a toy and went to adventures, because Michael was sad from losing his toy dog.

Wichien Maat ("Moon Diamond")

I joined #FolkloreThursday after seeing a Tolkien scholar I respect doing it. My thread for the final hosted hashtag day is about Tolkien's essay based on his lecture on 8 March 1939, "On Fairy-Stories", where he described the value of fairy story.

Former Hungarian president Árpád Göncz (1922-2015) translated the Hungarian versions of The Lord of the Rings (A Gyűrűk Ura, 1981) and Farmer Giles of Ham (A Sonkádi Egyed gazda, 1988). Göncz did the prose while poet Dezső Tandori did the poem translation.
