I just finished my first playthrough of @pieplus_eng's Beyond Eden and I LOVED IT! (Ending 2 for reference) I feel like so much of that was catered specifically for me. Dark and twisted and everyone full of self loathing and lust... I am so excited to see what else it has!
For queer men, another notable long flowing haired character was Aoike Yasuko’s titular character from From Eroica with Love (1976). The Earl Dorian Red Gloria aka the thief Eroica was a rich gay man who wooed beautiful young men and beautiful hair. 23/
Most notably for long blond haired androgynous characters was perhaps first Lady Oscar from Riyoko Ikeda’s The Rose of Versailles (1972) (Eng ed from Udon), so it's not the style of men exclusively. 22/
Obviously, we can see the visual similarities between Mariach and Zoisite, with their flowing blond hair. This was a common design in shoujo manga at this point though. 21/
In 1992, Toei Animation developed the first Sailor Moon anime, based on Naoko Takeuchi’s manga of the same name, and in doing so, they made some changes to the story. 18/
Side note, Comic Jun (1978), later June, for which of course the long used term “june” was derived, had the subtitle of “Aesthetic Magazine for Gals.” issue 1 cover by Keiko Takemiya. Also here’s a drawing from that first Comic Jun issue of Bjorn Andresen by Kenkichi Sato. 8/
Back in the 70s, of course, proto-BL began getting published in shoujo (for girls) manga magazines. Fujin (gender nonspecific fans of BL) of course are familiar with the works of Moto Hagio (Heart of Thomas, Eng ed from Fantagraphics) and Keiko Takemiya (Kaze to Ki no Uta). 3/
The Two Lions by Nagisa Furuya, out from @gomanga, was so very sweet! I loved Onizuka's cat like design and of course how their friendship slowly developed and Junpei realized his feelings! 💕
I absolutely loved the first two volumes of Black or White by Sachimo, out now from @SuBLimeManga! Shin and Shige are both such good characters and I love their dynamic and their established relationship and how they have to navigate that with their growing fame. It's excellent!
I just read vol 1 of Tamekou's Lala's Married Life, out now from @AnimateIntl as one of their launch titles, and I loved it! Wolsey is just so manipulative and so possessive of Ramdune, and poor Ramdune! Ahh but I can't wait until he falls for Wolsey as well! Very sexy too 💕
