Xbox Game Pass has dropped some fantastic indie games this month, most of which I would have otherwise overlooked. An eclectic mix of two ultraviolent shooters, a visual storybook and a game about (as the title suggests) unpacking.
2019 - Control (PS4). Remedy has an amazing pedigree with games like Max Payne, Alan Wake and Quantum Break, but Control is their best yet. The story is a total mind-fuck but the combat is absolutely sublime. I recommend the next-gen Ultimate Edition for the optimal experience.
2020 - Ghost of Tsushima (PS4). It's hard for an open-world game to stand out given how bloated the genre has become, but Ghost of Tsushima is something special. The story keeps you engaged but it's the beautiful open world that keeps you coming back.
2021 - Hades (PS5). Perhaps the biggest surprise given that roguelike/roguelites games are not my cup of tea. Hades is a transcendent experience, finely crafted and addictive, I've often found myself saying "just one more game" when playing into the wee hours.
@ElvenGlory Shit, I'm so sorry to hear this. Sending my best wishes to your, your mom and your family.
