@marissadraws My most persistent memory is the magenta from the eighties, but these seem to trend red to orange regardless. Desert sunset colors, maybe?
I think The Quarmer is the closest thing Superman can have to a polar-opposite, a figure with his appearance and powers who genuinely stands against everything Superman stands for. He's apathetic, he's selfish, he's mercurial. Sure you need help but he's got his own problems...
(I'm a real hardliner when it comes to how Bizarro is supposed to speak, but I'll spare you the inevitably breathless Twitter thread that's eventually gonna get written about that)
This is why you get a Bizarro who still *tries* to be of help, but is otherwise incompetent (or brutish, or brooding, or sensitive). He can be a parody of Superman, but he can also be much more lovable simply because he's all of Superman's weaknesses, finally on display...
My favorite among these one-and-done characters is Super-Menace, an alien energy being who parallels Superman's life. Raised by crooks and hiding his presence from his twin, he uses his powers for crime and evil...
We're watching "Ransom for a Dead Man" tonight, an episode that's missing on Peacock, but *is* on Tubi, and is good. Fun that I had to do some detective work to find it.
More Superman villains. If my art posts are interesting to you, I have an Instagram at https://t.co/a0AibIMLUw
Currently working on something which necesitates a list of contemporary, comic book revivals of public domain superheroes. In addition to the ol' Not Forgotten anthology, there are these prominent examples ... but these are just a few, I'd appreciate getting pointed to more of em
These colors really are awesome, the Malibu press living up to the hype
