Not only are we launching HANS VOGEL IS DEAD by @chjorniy_voron on @Kickstarter tonight, but it's a FULL MOON too!

Which Hans would undoubtedly miss due to being unconscious and spirited away to the Märchenwald on the back of a flying horse.

Crafting the character of Doctor Caim was the heart of this graphic novel. I made a deliberate decision that Caim should never be seen without a mask. This way, the character is truly an Everyman: an average human being that could belong to any race, ethnicity, gender, etc.

My research quickly led me to what kind of medicines and treatments plague doctors would have used to treat their patients. The favorites were bloodletting and leeches, which would give any modern reader the heebie-jeebies.

These illuminated manuscripts influenced how I approached drawing “Doctor Caim.” They helped me decide on a simple four-panel per page format. They also helped me discover an overall color palette; I often took colors directly from these pages with Photoshop’s eyedropper tool.
