Remarkable memorial, and, bottom right, ink and watercolour design in the archives @britishmuseum, by John Flaxman to Sarah Morley, who died after childbirth at sea in 1784. @GlosCathedral #monumentsMonday
For #monumentsMonday the 17C Savage family alabaster tomb at St Mary’s, Elmley Castle, Worcs, is right up there. The details are remarkable, including the baby held in Lady Catherine’s arms.
#fontsonFriday The octagonal bowl at St Mary’s, Elmley Castle, Worcs, dates to about 1500, and includes Tudor emblems. But look at the base! 13C, with four fabulous writhing dragons (one has a damaged head) being crushed by the baptismal waters of the font.
Ordinary people represented on these magnificent #medieval corbels (early 14C) at St Mary Redcliffe, Bristol, showing the strain of holding up the statues of the ‘great and the good’.
#AnimalsInChurchesHour #FarmyardFavourites Lots of farmyard activity on the misericords at St Mary’s, Ripple!
@SHONIBARESTUDIO was so witty and wise at Hereford’s glorious cathedral @HFDCathedral last night talking about life, art and Creatures of the #MappaMundi @MeadowArts
