Picture of the Day: F E Musin (1820-1888) "HMS Erebus in the Ice" (1846) Franklin's ill fated last expedition sailed from Greenhithe in Kent on this day in 1845. All 129 men died attempting to navigate and chart the North West Passage.

Picture of the Day: Carl Locher (1851-1915) "The Lifeboat is on its way out" Locher was a Danish artist who was trained by his father who painted ship portraits for a living. Locher was a member of the a group of artists centred on the fishing village of Skagen.

Picture of the Day: Georgina Moutray Kyle (1865-1950) "Study for Girls and Gulls at Ardglass" (1920s) Georgina lived in Belfast. As the daughter of a wealthy businessman she was financially independent and spent the summers at the fishing village of Ardglass.
