What the prose DOES do well is convey a sort of twee materialist fairytale feeling, in which dragons aren’t real dragons but still give you the dragon feeling and love isn’t real love but still gives you the love feeling.
The Incal by Moebius/Jodorowsky is crazy. It's right at the edge of comprehensibility, both visually and in story terms. I don't know if I can responsibly recommend it though, it's a little prurient for my taste.
