🧵Many wild ancestors of domesticated animals are either extinct or critically endangered. Why is this?
Most famous: The Auroch (Bos primigenius) once ranged across Eurasia and is the ancestor of every strain of domesticated cattle (Bos taurus). The last one died in 1627.
