yes there is nuance in colors, but beginners don't draw fully rendered pieces that would require knowledge on how dark skin reflects light, or how it is affected by ambience. it is quite literally about picking a color

it's okay to be proud of their improvement bc it's good

you don't need advanced color theory knowledge to know what brown looks like. kindergartners don't take college level classes to learn how to draw trees
