The duality of isopods

One of my recent commission work features Messor barbarus, an old world harvest ant species which collect and storage seeds; they play an important role in seed dispersal, and also a lot of fun to keep and observe! The art I post here is a bit different from the commission.

This is a recent commission artwork done for @parasitoidrex , it’s so great to have the opportunity to work on an insect group which hardly got any art except line drawings in scientific publications! Some of these platygastrine wasps are sooo bizarre and fun to draw!

Carcinisation (the fancy way to say different crustacean groups keep evolving to crabs). Only one of those folks is a true crab, and others got their crab-like appearance evolved independently 😉
