fun fact! kaeya and diluc wear the same jewellery they did when they were younger (diluc’s red gem and kaeya’s earring)
@sodiumch3 yes absolutely he definitely provoked collei into getting riled up so he could prove his theory correct. though i’m pretty sure he knew from the start that she was innocent. collei came to mondstadt in search of her own cure after all, she was never a threat to mond on her own
hell- he even saved collei from being caught / arrested by coming up with an intricate plot to frame diluc and even got him (a man who absolutely despises how the knights care so much about their reputation) to agree to his plan.
like right here, as he was going for the ‘finishing blow’, he was expecting her to protect herself or attack him using the black fire, but as soon as she reacted in a way he didn’t expect, he hesitated. he even knew that amber would show up to stop things from getting too brutal.
yes it is really fucked up to attack a literal child but like i said kaeya has strange ways of making things go to plan 😭 he didn’t aim to gravely injure collei (which he didn’t anyway)
he only did it so he could see if the black fire used that day was indeed possessing collei
we know kaeya can be.. morally grey at best. his reasons for fighting and injuring collei were to prove his theory that she was behind the black fire incident, but she had no control over her powers.
a lot of people say kaeya tried to kill collei.. but i really don’t think that’s the case at all 🥲
and here is why (a really long thread):
