@kortizart @thatstarwarsgrl Fuck I miss this. Truly our greatest hour.
@Beavs I always assumed the more washed out watercolory look was an intentional nod to the concept artists Alan Lee and John Howe to make the movie feel more like a heightened fairytale than a gritty realistic thing
What originally got me into concept art as a kid was seeing the beautiful artwork of Yoshitaka Amano and how well it translated down into pixels while still maintaining his designs.
4 Fiends- Final Fantasy (NES)
as a kid I would always go through my mom's vinyls and stare at the movie artwork done by illustrator Ted Coconis. A huge influence then, and still so unique
Probably my favorite thing we came up with for our second Kickstarter. I wonder how many backers grew up with D.A.R.E. in their schools
One reason I loved the older final fantasy games so much as a kid was how well Amano's weird and unique enemy designs translated into pixel form. It's hard to find anything as solid and distinct even 30 years later.
@wesburt we actually homaged this movie at the end of our first book lol, one of many references probably nobody got.
Legend of Mana was such a beautiful game. I'd love to see it redone with all the source art in HD.
