I haven't played any of these, but I see them brought up pretty often. They're all older VN's, which means that they'll contain no gameplay and probably little in the way of branching paths, but they're worth looking into

Death Mark (2018)

More horror than DR/ZE, but gameplay features investigation and puzzle-solving segments. Also includes a cast of very colorful characters who are very mortal and dependent on certain decisions you make. More straightforward, but a very solid horror experience

YTTD is probably the most similar on this list, featuring a LOT of gameplay in different forms (investigations, trial segments, minigames, and more) in addition to a VN story. a REALLY great and gripping story, might I add

Your Turn To Die (2017)

I know almost all my mutuals have heard of this one by now, but if you haven't, check it out! It's free to play at https://t.co/7EvM5wmXdY, and though the English translation isn't fully finished yet, it's definitely still worth playing.

Exile Election (2017)

Described as a "death game adventure", it's another that follows the formula more literally. Less gameplay than DR/ZE, but the aesthetic and atmosphere are really similar, with a cast of pretty memorable characters.

No localization is planned atm tho : /

The story follows participants in a unique kind of death game- They've all died at the same and are given the chance of being fully resurrected provided they win. It's very character-driven with a highly emotional and suspenseful story. Definitely recommend.

Ace Attorney (2001- )

Without a doubt the most highly-recommended when it comes to looking for games similar to DR/ZE. If you haven't checked out it yet, PLEASE do! The story and characters are all unforgettable and even the oldest games in the series still hold up wonderfully
