In the North American South, it's considered bad luck to sweep over someone's feet.
If a brook sweeps over a person's feet it will, according to lore, prevent them from marrying. The broom is an often overlooked, yet powerful symbol with significance across cultures.

In Mexico, many see owls as symbols of magic and ill-intent.
According to lore, the Lechuza is a shapeshifting witch who takes the form of an owl to seek vengeance. In some cases, it's especially bad luck to see an owl during the daytime.
