I still enjoy Way of the Househusband and the numerous yakuza-themed manga out there — i just think it’s good for western fans to keep in mind that the reality isn’t quite so cute/funny/swoon-worthy.

Thanks to its subtitled Japanese TV programs, KIKU-TV introduced me to anime, tokusatsu shows, samurai movies, melodramas, j-pop and so much more. It’s so sad to see it transformed into something as generic & soulless as a shopping channel.

I just started reading Medalist by Tsurukaikada fr. and besides being a great read about a shy, insecure girl aiming to be a world class ice skater, I'm learning a lot about what it takes for a kid to get to that level. https://t.co/qGfBVbaYAj

It amazes me that sports stories are a huge genre in manga but nearly non-existent in American comics. You don't even have to be a fan to love and learn a lot from a sport from reading the manga. I don't watch pro boxing, volleyball, baseball or soccer but I LOVE these series

Hm. You'd think there would be more dog manga, huh. There's Inu-baka (crazy about dogs) fr. and Yuzu the Pet Vet fr.

Any other suggestions? https://t.co/WftxglHuUZ

That's not to say that shonen manga gets it right all the time, or that there's not room for improvement.

I guess I'm saying that US superhero comics has some deep ecosystem / user experience issues that won't be fixed by simply drawing "manga-style stories"
