Ed Ruscha’s drawing, “Two Sheets with Whisky Stains” (1973) was made from gunpowder and Scotch whisky on paper. It’s part of the Jack Shear collection at the @Drawing Center.
Frank O'Hara once collaborated on a little-known portfolio of drawings with the Italian artist Mario Schifano, and both were incapable of making a mark that did not look elegant. The drawings are at @ItalianModArt.

Hard to resist the cyber-green light and and boho tenderness of Salman Toor’s “Bar on 13th Street” (2019), which pays homage to Manet’s “Bar at the Folies-Bergère” (1882).
How do we feel about Constantin Guys, the French artist who was born on this day in 1802? He was championed by the poet Baudelaire, who called him the quintessential painter of modern urban life, and he lives on as a rare example of an artist who was critically overpraised.
Today, in the midst of our plague year, it is helpful to remember that the word independence means having the courage to stand alone —also, to stay home and avoid mindless gatherings.
