Dani Beedxe’ (so-called Monte Albán) was the capital of the Zapotec people, and home to 17,000 people, despite a lack of water supplies or fertile land.
The four springs have long been part of Coahuiltecan ceremonial pilgrimages, and today the tribe is working to protect the springs and their right to conduct ceremonies.
