While I'm not generally a fan of narratives written from the first POV, it just works well with this light novella. Even the epistolary inserts of Gu Yiliang are a refreshing technique for POV-shift without disrupting the flow of the story.
Characters are likable, share good chemistry, and are walking disasters of their own brand!😆The self-deprecating Wei Yanzi ("I have the face of an idol and the acting skills of an egg yolk") is charming & droll, while the talented Gu Yiliang is the epitome of adorable dorkiness.
What I like the most about this story is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. It shamelessly thrives on tropes; it pokes light-hearted fun at fujoshis, shipping, and the BL fandom in general, but never takes a mocking or self-righteous tone at all.
Yanyan got overwhelmed by Gu "Sugar Man" Yiliang's show of affection and had the urge to lick the man to see if he actually tastes sweet. Like?? He even imagined GYL lollipops?? 😂
It's the "prpr" for me, I AM SO DONE WITH HIS FUDANSHI ASS 😂
Stop and wait a sec
well, if you look at me like that,
my darling, what did you expect?
I'd probably still adore you with your hands around my neck
(Or I did, last time I checked)
Random someone: "Little Mushroom"? Pfft, why am I gonna read a novel with that kinda title? Bet that's just some silly kids' book
Me:
"My legs are longer than hers. Just look at mine next time."
The way the makeup artist is losing it 😂
Even if I die and am nailed inside a coffin, I will still cry out with my rotten throat from the other side of the grave: NIANGZI IS REEEAAAL
