Steph & Duke already know each other, they’ve worked missions together & according to Urban Legends they go mini golfing with Cass every Sunday so they should already know each other & be friendly with each other.

You know though Steph's relationship with her mother wasn't always the best they were genuinely making attempts to mend the relationship in Batgirl 2009 which makes how things turned out between them after the reboot all the more sad & frustrating
