M FLARE from AR3169 at 14:10 U.T. It was an M1 event in the NE part of the Sun, so even if it launched a coronal mass ejection it would be unlikely to hit Earth. Note all the side effects it produces in other parts of the region.
POLAR CROWN FILAMENT: The line encircling the north polar region (white) and transferred to the magnetogram below. Note: inside the circle the magnetic polarity is white (+ve), outside it is black (-ve). At solar maximum, it disappears, and the polar region will be all negative.
FLARING CENTER: Most of the recent flares, including the M5 event, have come from the active region AR3141. It has two huge sunspots.
TWO NEW SUNSPOT REGIONS: 2 sunspot groups just behind the east limb of the Sun. Should eb visible in a couple of days. One is flaring. (N.B., image rotated clockwise by 90 degrees)
