How long the Curse of Macha lasted is debatable. But the foolish King would regret his command at the expense of a #labouring #woman! At their time of greatest need, the males of Ulster found they were as weak & vulnerable as a woman in the throes of #childbirth! #MythologyMonday
Celtic #myth tells of the #cat-sìth. Believing it could steal a person's soul, before it was claimed by the gods; by passing over a corpse before burial. Methods of "distraction" such as games of leaping, catnip, riddles, & music keep the cat-sìth away.

The Philippine #myth of the sugarcane. Once there was a datu with so much success, he was ready for heaven. But before suicide, an old man found him & brought him to heaven on earth, a sugarcane field! For it is the simple things that really give meaning to life. #MythologyMonday
With a head & neck of a horse, tail of a fish & webbed paws as front hooves; the Hippocampus is the offical chariot-puller of Poseidon. With the ability to gallop on water, this Greco hybrid creature is shared by Phoenician, Etruscan, Pictish, & Roman #mythology.

Japanese #FairyTale, The Star Lovers. 7th day of the 7th moon, the Light Deity allows his daughter to see her banished lover. Using magpies as a bridge, to cross over the Milky Way. Weaving Maiden annually visits her lover Herd Boy, but only if weather is clear! #FairyTaleTuesday
In Chinese lore, Wen Shi is Longmu #Dragon #Mother/#Queen. Finding an egg by the river, she hatched 5 snakes that matured into #dragons! She became legend when her dragon-children ended the drought. When she died, the dragons took human form, aka the 5 Scholars.

The #FairyTale continues as the boy grows & works. He is favored by the King. The jealous Queen forces the boy into deadly tasks. With help from a fairy-bird the boy conquers a sorceress & a dragon. Ultimately killing the Queen, who was blood-tied to the dragon. #FairyTaleTuesday
My favorite version of the Firebird #FairyTale is the Slavic #ballet. Where a magical feather summons a Firebird! One that casts a sleeping spell & tells our hero how to destroy the villian. By throwing the egg (where the soul resides); breaking it, & the curse! #FairyTaleTuesday
