These processes usually involve democratically elected officials, who Jenrick labels "town hall militants and woke worthies". This is the toxic language of Trump and similar far-right populists. We should be very wary: stoking up a culture war like this does not tend to end well.

I'm wary of taking the bait, but one aspect of Jenrick's piece that continues to irk - and is just disingenuous - is the idea that moving statues or renaming roads is a 'whim' or an elite decision. This is nonsense. It's almost always the result of long campaigns & consultations.
