Drew some more vfx sprites, polished the middle character, stalling on backgrounds and monster designs. I need to make some sort of mockup that incorporates these pieces eventually, but it's fun making these.
Minor revisions. Planned out some more effect animations, tweaked some sprites.
Also started to figure out how the palettes could be divided for a battle system on an NES:
OBJ: 3 character pal + 1 fx pal
BG: 2 enemy pal + 1 backdrop pal + 1 menu pal
okay, a first pass over converting all the artwork is done! some things turned out nicer than others, but it's a good start.
couldn't fall asleep, so I drew a bit more to tire myself out - more stuff redrawn, slowly filling this in with 16x16 versions
Slow progress on redrawing the tileset. Still got a ways to go. First pass is just making 'cleaned up' 16x16 versions of all the 8x8 sprite art. After that, I might tidy things further and split things into multiple palettes, but undecided yet.
Bumped some old art I was thinking about it lately, I've really wanted to do RPG with tile-based puzzle elements in the style of games like Lufia 2, Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, and StarTropics.
Here's a re-upload, now that Twitter rules allow it to stay as a PNG.
@GaucheArtist wow, a blast from the past. I can't find that exact ROM, but I have other ones here! also this one:
went to ceramic cafe, painted a little bowl. originally was gonna paint leaf patterns but gave up in favor of a blue-teal-green-yellow gradient. we'll see how this turns out in a few days!!
@VioSpinel here were some rough tests with different colors (+ 3c version), side-sprite was still pretty rough, I think I have a better version of the 4 directions somewhere, need to dig more hahah
Attempted messing around with sprytile for fun! Here's a cute little scene using some old 8x8-based tiles I had lying around. slightly recolored them to work in 3D. Rendered as 480x270 without anti-aliasing
